About Meher Banajee

Meher Banajee - USSAAC Katrina Relief Plan Coordinator

Until she was displaced by Hurricane Katrina's devastation, Meher Banajee worked as the Assistive Technology Coordinator for Region 1 in the New Orleans area. Now temporarily relocated to Baton Rouge, she has volunteered at various Red Cross shelters during evening shifts and learned about the needs of displaced people and those in need of assistive technology equipment and services.

Meher is also volunteering with the Louisiana Assistive Technology Access Network (which is the Louisiana Tech Act agency) to coordinate efforts to channel assistive technology to Hurricane Katrina and Rita victims with disabilities, and she has been asked to coordinate similar efforts in the Baton Rouge school system.

She has enthusiastically agreed to spearhead the United States Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication's efforts to get equipment and resources in the hands of people with severe communication challenges who have been displaced and are unable to access what they need.
