Biography
My name is Sean Stenglein, and I am from Ashford, CT. I am a 26-year old student with cerebral palsy, and I attend Connecticut State Community College. I will be graduating this May with a degree to become a Disability Specialist. I use a high-tech speech communication device called the Tobii/Dynavox TD pilot to share my thoughts, build relationships with others, do my coursework, and advocate for those who do not have access to their voice yet. I have been using eye gaze technology for the last 14 years. I have presented at several colleges, universities, and public schools as well as the ATIA ( Assistive Technology Industry Association) conference about my life and using alternative/augmentative communication. I have also worked for a travel agency, writing blogs about accessible travel, and have been working in conjunction with the University of Connecticut food services to assist in donating surplus food to local community outreach programs. This past year, I had the opportunity to work as an intern at a local veteran support center, which I found extremely rewarding! I am also a strong advocate for others and a member of KASA ( Kids As Self Advocates). My career goals include helping others learn how to use non-traditional communication and helping them access everything and anything they want to do in life.
